The Monte Vista City Council has recently taken significant steps to address housing needs and promote tourism within the community.
Housing Planning Grant Match Approved
In a move to tackle local housing challenges, the council approved Resolution 20-26-10, authorizing the city’s participation in a Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) housing planning grant application. This collaborative effort includes Rio Grande County, Del Norte, and South Fork. Monte Vista’s contribution involves a local match of approximately $5,000, with the county acting as the fiscal sponsor. The grant aims to update a prior housing assessment, providing current data to inform future housing strategies.
Intergovernmental Agreement for Lodging-Tax Marketing Funds
To enhance tourism marketing efforts, the council approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to distribute county lodging tax revenues through local marketing groups. This five-year agreement is designed to streamline the allocation of funds, ensuring effective promotion of Monte Vista as a tourist destination. By partnering with local organizations, the city aims to boost visitor engagement and support the local economy.
These initiatives reflect the council’s commitment to addressing housing affordability and stimulating economic growth through tourism. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in upcoming community discussions related to these developments.
